About Us

How We Started:

The Crafty Coo began as a two-week pop-up shop on Newmarket Street in June 2023, with eight craftswomen who usually travelled to arts and crafts markets around Scotland. Tired of carrying heavy craftwork such as slate, ceramic, and glass across the country for single-day events, the idea of a permanent shop took shape. The pop-up was a success, and with the warm welcome received, the dream of a permanent space became a reality.

Our Journey:

On November 4, 2024, The Crafty Coo, Ayr, opened at 72 Sandgate as Ayr’s newest gift shop and art gallery. Run by a collective of artists alongside permanent partner businesses and rotating visiting crafters, our shop offers a diverse collection of handcrafted, hand-designed products. Open six days a week, even through the chilly winds of January, it has already welcomed visitors from across the world, including the USA, Germany, Zimbabwe, and Ireland, as well as many ex-pats.

Our Aim:

More than just a shop, The Crafty Coo aims to be a creative destination, offering classes, demonstrations, special events, and competitions. The first fused glass workshop sold out, with more planned in various crafts such as botanical art, crochet, and decoupage. With our strong focus on traditional skills using materials like wood, silver, clay, fabric, and glass, our shop also embraces modern techniques such as computer illustration and laser etching while remaining mindful of reducing plastic use.

Opening & Closing Times:

Monday - Saturday: 11am To 5pm

Closed on Sunday.
